Jose-Daniel “JD” Torres
A creative professional who finds inspiration in translating complex ideas into functional, enduring visual forms, whether working from a meticulously developed creative brief or an open conversation where an intention is only beginning to materialize. He believes design begins communicating before a single word is consciously read. Rather than imposing a signature aesthetic, JD develops visual languages informed by each project's purpose, audience, and constraints, ranging from restrained, typography-driven compositions with generous negative space to dense, expressive visual systems that embrace complexity and unconventional arrangements.
Craft & Strategy
Structure, hierarchy, contrast, and rhythm are at the core of JD’s design ethos. With a foundation in commercial printing, where creative vision meets the realities of production, he approaches each project with an understanding of what happens beyond the monitor. His hands-on experience across prepress, color management, fabrication, and installation allows him to anticipate technical challenges and make informed creative decisions. Rather than treating production constraints as limitations, JD incorporates them into the design process, finding opportunities where creative ambition and practical execution intersect.
Leadership & Evolution
Over the past fifteen years, JD’s work has spanned retail, hospitality, healthcare, technology, and B2B industries, encompassing brand identities, marketing campaigns, packaging, environmental graphics, and digital assets. As his responsibilities expanded into creative leadership, marketing strategy, and production oversight, he developed a broader perspective on how individual design elements contribute to larger, cohesive campaigns and brand experiences. His approach to leadership favors experimentation over rigid direction, recognizing individual strengths and encouraging people to pursue their potential. He believes that meaningful recognition, fair compensation, and a supportive working environment are essential to good work. Above all, he wants the people he works with to feel invested in what they create and proud of what they accomplish.
Artistic Practice
Beyond commercial work, JD’s independent artistic practice explores abstraction, geometric forms, unconventional organic proportions, and the tension between structure and disorder. It offers the freedom to experiment without the demands of a commercial brief, while his professional experience provides the discipline to recognize when a composition is resolved. Both practices continually inform one another, allowing him to approach familiar problems from unexpected directions.
His education has followed a similarly unconventional path, developing alongside his career through formal coursework, independent study, and experimentation across typography, illustration, motion graphics, 3D design, and design theory. For JD, the appeal of design has never been limited to mastering a particular medium or technique. It's found in the process of exploring possibilities, making deliberate choices, and seeing an idea through to its final form.
